Pregnancy Knot: Dani Nouguier

How far along in pregnancy?
36 weeks!!! It's almost over!!

How are you feeling physically?
Pretty good! Things are a lot more work than I'm used to...namely getting dressed, pulling on socks and boots. Lots of fetal movement I can see and feel, which is uncomfortable but never ceases to be amazing. I love feeling him move. I feel like I have Braxton Hicks all the time, but I chalk it up to my body pumping iron for the big game!

How are you feeling emotionally?
Good. I'm starting to feel my vanity get the best of me...missing my ankles, wondering why my face looks puffy in pictures. And dumbfounded and overwhelmed that my husband thinks my pregnant body is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. I'm also journeying through the realization that our whole world is changing, drastically -- and quickly. I've so enjoyed being pregnant, and although I understand the purpose and was initially more focused on the outcome, the truth is I'm fairly content right here! Can't wait to meet our baby boy and at the same time totally overwhelmed by how much I can't even begin to comprehend what that means!

How have you been preparing for childbirth?
We took a natural child birth class at Mountain Midwifery Center as well as a breastfeeding class. We're working with our doula to get ready for labor and delivery and develop a detailed birth plan. Bouncing on my ball! I've been trying to be particularly mindful of my thoughts around labor and my own abilities as I still have some doubt about my own strength. I've been listening to other families stories and we've been learning as much as we can to be prepared to give birth in a medical setting with a not-so-medical philosophy.

What do you love most about pregnancy?
It's seriously so magical. The whole thing. The fact that this tiny little sophisticated person has been pieced together from the tiniest building blocks. That our bodies and their bodies have it written in to our being how to grow and change and sustain life. I feel so honored and humbled to get to be a part of something so special, so profoundly beautiful. I love it.

Any cravings?
More aversions. But I can't get enough ice water, which I normally hate. And this summer I was loving cantaloupe!

What makes you feel best right now?
I could sit in the rocking chair in our munchkin's room and stair up at the space we've created for him together and feel completely content. We love reading in bed together to our little guy. And as always - putting on a great outfit that showcases the belly makes me feel like a million bucks.

Anything else you'd like to share with pregnant moms?
Relish in the wonder, learn everything you can! It goes by so fast...Listen to those who are encouraging and uplifting and ignore/avoid those who have nothing positive to offer -- you don't need that junk in your head! So many women wear pregnancy like martyrdom -- but it doesn't have to be.

What's your vision of childbirth?
This is a tough one.  We're really hoping to deliver naturally -- but that feels way bigger than the standard epidural or no epidural question we often get asked. I want a chance to be present in the labor and delivery of our little boy. I want to experience the comparatively primitive culmination of the most mind-blowing natural process that has ever existed. I want to trust my body and my Maker with the simple (albeit difficult) act of birthing our child, after trusting without question the design and creation of his tiny body and soul. So I guess whatever that ends up looking like -- I'm open to it.
