Pregnancy Knot: Becca Dillon

Cord mamas

How far along are you in your pregnancy?
21 weeks with a little girl!

How are you feeling physically?
Pretty good right now. I was really sick from week 6 through 14 with constant nausea. I am now feeling more myself, besides the wonderful heartburn! I drink a lot of water, so I’m CONSTANTLY going to the bathroom. I am now able to practice yoga 3-5 times a week and can now feel baby girl move!

How are you feeling emotionally?
I am feeling better. During the first trimester, I felt more like I was “surviving” rather than "thriving". Being sick and tired probably did not help my mood. I felt like my goal each day was to just make it bed as early as possible. I was also still grieving our recent miscarriage and just felt down. Although the miscarriage is not something I'm over, I'm beginning to see more of beauty from the ashes and able to feel more joyful about this pregnancy. I’m feeling encouraged and excited for this pregnancy and enjoying watching baby grow. I am beginning to feel happier than I ever have!

How have you been preparing for childbirth?
My husband and I just started our four-week birthing class through our local hospital. We will learn about preparing for birth, the stages of labor, natural and medicinal pain management education, and breastfeeding.

I am also reading the Yoga Birth Method by Dorothy Guerra, which explores using Yoga as a method for natural child birth.

What do you love most about being pregnant?
Seeing a miracle being woven inside my womb! It’s such a crazy and miraculous thing to witness a life being created inside me. It has strengthened by faith and made me feel so incredibly blessed that God would choose me to usher one of His children into this world. What an honor?!

Any cravings?
Chocolate! I've never really been a sweets person, but cannot stay away from the sugar! This has been really surprising to both my husband and I. I hope to find some dietary balance soon because I know my chocolate-consumption will probably catch up to me!

What makes you feel the best right now?
Watching my husband eagerly await meeting his daughter. It's so attractive to see him preparing for fatherhood! Also, evening baths (with coconut oil and my favorite stress-release bubble bath), as well as my normal and prenatal yoga classes.

Anything else you'd like to share with pregnant mamas?
My goal has been to cherish every moment I am given to carry this child. For the rest of my life (and her life) I will never be this close to her. Instead of concentrating too much on her arrival, I'm trying to be deliberate in cherishing our time as "one". This comes as a challenge to me, since I seem to always look ahead. I have to consciously enjoy being "just 21 weeks pregnant"... not even looking to the next week. Staying present and thanking God for this day's blessing with her has been really important.
