What does Breastfeeding mean to you?
Breastfeeding means that I am giving my baby the best nutrition he could possibly receive. I am helping his immune system, making him stronger. It means I get to share this special bond with him. It means comfort, love and security. And it also means that we get to sit down, relax and just enjoy each other. I feel so proud that I have been able to breastfeed this long.
What has been your biggest breastfeeding challenge?
The only challenge that I had was in the beginning I had to breastfeed my son every 2 hours. It was exhausting. He had jaundice and lost a bit of weight. Then the hardest part was trying to keep him awake long enough to breastfeed. But to be honest, he latched on pretty quick and we had no major issues.
What do you love most about breastfeeding?
Everything! The fact that I get to bond with him and that I'm able to provide him with his nutritional needs.
Who (or what) has offered you the most support?
I had a great support group with the Mom & Me yoga class that I was attending. Between fellow moms and our yoga instructor I received wonderful advice and the best support.
Any advice for other mothers who want to breastfeed?
Don't give up! It does get tough at times, physically and emotionally. Your nipples will get sore, or it may seem that you're milk supply is decreasing. Don't get discouraged, and don't forget to take care of yourselves too!! That's the most important.
