What does Breastfeeding mean to you?
It means everything to me. Now that my girls are older, I see how truly special it is as a bond. I work full-time and it is the first thing both of them want when I walk in the house. So I know without a doubt, it is our way to connect. I also read once "I'm going to fail them a million other ways, but this is the one thing I know I'm doing right". That resonates with me daily.
What has been your biggest breastfeeding challenge?
My biggest challenge has been working full-time. Pumping is never a delight. Choosing to sleep with your kids so they can nurse on demand through-out the night is tough when you have to get up in the morning.
I so often get burnt out and touched out. I feel like 'getting over myself' is another big challenge.
What do you love most about breastfeeding?
I love knowing that I'm giving my children the most precious gift I can give them. Health, nutrition, love, and a life-time connection. It is so empowering as a woman to know that your body is capable of not only sustaining, but allowing these little lives to thrive in their early days. It's also allowing me to learn to be proud of myself. Tandem nursing toddlers and giving my girls the gift of self-weaning are things that bring me a great deal of pride.
Who (or what) has offered you the most support?
My husband, parents, and the online community I have sought out. Their support is vital and helps keep me going.
Any advice for other mothers who want to breastfeed?
I feel like I can contribute my success to giving myself no other options. I made the choice subconsciously and consciously and so it was.
