As of May 2015, we have three BEAUTIFUL birth centers in the Denver/Boulder region, and I'm sharing a few images from each. Women need MORE birthing choices, and these birth centers give many women the opportunity to birth outside of a hospital setting.
Mountain Midwifery Center is the most established birth center in our state. Thousands of babies have been born under the loving care of MMC midwives. Just this month, Mountain Midwifery moved into their BRAND NEW birthing space, which is both functional and beautiful. Four uniquely decorated birthing suites with spacious birth tubs allow women to give birth in a peaceful and comforting environment. Located in Englewood, MMC draws women from not only Denver, but also Castle Rock, and Colorado Springs. Mountain Midwifery has paved the way for the other birth centers in Colorado and continue to serve more families than any other birth center in our state. There new location is truly stunning and will no doubt provide a beautiful and peaceful space for thousands more Colorado babies to come into the world.
The Birth Center of Boulder opened last year. It is owned collectively by five founding members - three midwives, a doula with her MS, and a business/birth advocate. These founding members provide "personalized, holistic, time intensive, evidence based care." Each time I've visited the birth center, I've seen each of these attributes in action. From acupuncture to the soothing rice porridge they prepare for their clients after birth, the Birth Center of Boulder is a unique and peaceful space for expecting families. It is a smaller practice than Mountain Midwifery and located in the beautiful foothills of Boulder. I love the tapestries they've hung in each of the birth spaces, as well as the many other artistic touches that honor the sacredness and beauty of birth.
Baby + Co opened in the Spring of 2015 in Wheatridge, Colorado. The first Baby + Co birth center was launched in Arkansas in 2013 and has since expanded to both North Carolina and Colorado. Baby + Co hired three local Colorado certified nurse midwives, who have served the Colorado community for years. The center was decorated and designed specifically with Colorado families in mind. Beautiful birthing rooms, a dedicated community space, and a staff of passionate care providers makes Baby + Co a very special place to give birth. As they begin to catch babies this fall, the midwives at Baby + Co bring compassionate and professional care to women in Denver. Jennifer Mason and I will be photographing a birth at the new center in late August! We can't wait to share more images with you. (And if you visit, you might even see some of our artwork on the walls!). We've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the women behind this new center...and their heart for women and birth is truly inspiring.
We are lucky to have these three beautiful centers serving women in Denver and Boulder. But as many of you might mention, we need more! Colorado Springs and Fort Collins are two metro areas that are largely underserved. Let's support these birth centers so that more can open across our entire state!
If you are thinking about giving birth in Denver, we'd love to support you. Cord has an amazing team of Denver doulas, placenta encapsulators, and postpartum doulas. You can find more about our Denver Doula services here.
PS. There is another new birth center coming to Denver in late fall of 2015. I can't wait to share some very exciting news about that center in the next few months.
